Georgopulo

G. A. Georgopulo & Company was a tobacconist begun by George Georgopulo and his brothers Basil and Theodore, making high quality cigarettes of Turkish and Egyptian tobacco, for which they were the sole US importers, at the turn of the 20th century. The business was joined by George B. Georgopulo in the 1940s and at some point Mr. Panos Georgopulo joined the business as well. Brands included Andron, Ramses II and Duo-Blend. The tobacconist was located for many years on Stone Street in New York City, and is credited with inventing the generic cigarette. They are known to have sold pipes, including some made and stamped for them by Saville. The company was dissolved in 1995.
