Richard C. Johnson ranges among America's highest rated pipemakers. He started making pipes in 1939 for Weber Pipe Co. in Jersey City started by Carl Weber just one year ago.

After leaving the company Johnson moved to Pennsylvania, where he bought a farm near Carlisle. He continued making pipes having built a small shop on his farm. Weber contracted him to do specialty work for years after.

His skills have been notarized in numerous books and magazines over the years. Most recently he was featured in the December issue of Smoke Shop Magazine 1997.

In the early 1980's Johnson had an apprentice, Eric C. Christie, to whom he taught the art of pipe making for three years.
