La fabrication de pipes Américaines est fortement influencé par les écoles Européennes, bien que que l'esthétique Asiatique, pour la réalisation de pipe, a également eu une influence notable. En particulier, les écoles Italiennes, Anglaises, et Françaises, avec leurs formes traditionnelles, ont servi de base aux travaux de nombreux fabricants de pipe Americains qui ont porté sur des collections d'anciennes Dunhills, Barlings, GBDs, Costellos, Savinelli's, etc. Beaucoup de ses formes ont été réalisées dans les années 1920. D'autres sont fortement influencés par les fabricants de pipes Danoise de haute qualité, qui ont également été influencés par leurs mentors, les pères du mouvement à la main libre danois des années 1950 et 1960.

"Go West" est un regard fascinant sur les fabricants américains de pipes de haute qualité de l'autre côté de l'étang. Rédigé par: Erwin Van Hove et publié à l'origine dans le magazine français Pipe Mag.

Parmi d'autres développements intéressants dans la fabrication de pipes aux États-Unis, il y a eu du sablage. Fred Hanna a écrit un article intéressant pour The Pipe Collector appelé, Les meilleurs pipes sablées sont réalisées par les Américains (titre original: The Best Sandblasted Pipes are Being Made By Americans), où il écrit, "De temps en temps, quelqu'un pointera un pays en particulier, comme le Danemark ou l'Italie, et remarquera la qualité de ses artisans pipiers en tant que groupe. Cela peut être en termes de conception, de finition, de becs, d'ingénierie ou de quoi que se soit d'autre. Ajoutons une autre évaluation de ce genre. J'ai regardé la qualité du sablage par les Américains depuis quelques années, et je ne pense pas qu'il y ait des doutes à ce sujet. Il suffit de se dire qu'une nouvelle génération de pipiers Américains a émergée. Beaucoup ont fait des voyages pour apprendre à réaliser du travail de haute qualité dans la fabrication de la pipe avec les meilleurs sculpteurs. Ils ont acquis tout le savoir technique et esthétique et l'ont adapté. D'autres combinent des styles traditionnels et libre dans une combinaison unique. Indépendamment de leurs influences, bon nombre de ces artisans pipiers continuent de fabriquer des pipes avec une énorme passion et énergie, et un esprit individuel, pas différent de celui qui a façonné le pays.
