Josep Santané i Ribas was born in Tossa de Mar, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, and is one of the few in the country still producing artisan pipes. The tradition of working in wood came from his grandfather, Dionís. As a child he would watch his grandfather making miniature boats for hours.
