Sabina Santos

Sabina Santos is the name behind Sabina Pipes, handmade pipes from Portugal. One of the few pipemaker women active in pipemakers community.

Sabina Santos was born on 20th May 1985 in Tiel, Netherlands, but lives in Portugal since she was 3 years old. She is married and a mother of a 2 year boy.

Sabina has a Communication Degree but she always worked in Finantial Area, in Treaury and Accounting departments. Work with numbers gave her useful skills as concentration and focus on details. But she always missed an activity in which she could express her criativity.

When her husband, a long time pipe smoker, began to explore the pipe making as an hobby, Sabina began to find it very interesting too. She followed his development and began to love the idea of carving a pipe. So she decided to learn pipe making techniques.

During pregnancy, she decided to be a stay at home mom. However she missed an occupation in which she could give wings to her creativity. So she decided to go ahead with the idea of making a pipe. In July 2013, Sabina carved her first pipe, a Poker, and it was the beginning of her journey as pipe maker.

Now, Sabina works in her workshop in part-time and her son and husband are her biggest inspiration.

Sabina works with the finnest briar, italian and greek and german acrylic for her stems. She also works with acrylic, exotic wood, silver and gold rings. In 2014 she created a Signature Collection, the Soul Pipes.

Sabina is an active member in Facebook community, where she shares her work. She says that all the support she has being receiving from her Facebook followers are the biggest motivation to keep her journey as pipe maker.
