The Sportsman pipe is by John Hudson Moore. It’s a company around in the 1940’s and I’ve seen an ad from 1947 showing their unique paneled rustic and smooth finish. “Sportsman, Champion of Pipes” Ad states: “Looks good to the eye, look again. Notice how the bruyeres natural burl areas complement those smooth, polished planes. Sportsman smokes as sweet as it looks.” Pictured is 3 sportsman pipes and bird dog pointing bird. He had a line of toiletries in the 1940’s and the pipes seem a part of a larger product line for the sportsman of the day.
As you might expect a name like '''Sportsman''' has been used by several different pipe makers over the years. See also [[Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation]], and the associated [[Amboseli]] company.

The Sportsman pipe here predates those made in Tanzania and Turkey, and is by John Hudson Moore, a company from the 1940’s as seen in an ad from 1947 showing their unique paneled rustic and smooth finishes.
