As you might expect a name like Sportsman has been used by several different pipe makers over the years. See also Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation, and the associated Amboseli company.

The Sportsman pipe here predates those made in Tanzania and Turkey, and is by John Hudson Moore, a company from the 1940’s as seen in an ad from 1947 showing their unique paneled rustic and smooth finishes.

“Sportsman, Champion of Pipes” Ad states: “Looks good to the eye, look again. Notice how the bruyeres natural burl areas complement those smooth, polished planes. Sportsman smokes as sweet as it looks.” Pictured is 3 sportsman pipes and bird dog pointing bird. He had a line of toiletries in the 1940’s and the pipes seem a part of a larger product line for the sportsman of the day.
