VanRoy Bard pipes are from the Linkman / Dr Grabow company. They tend to have fancy briar, with lots of contrast and character, and are marked "Selected Briar" or "Selected Grain." A 1945 Ad reads: “Signet of Quality in Pipes .” “Under a star studded sky… when impressions are sharply accented… try smoking a VanRoy. You will soon realize how profound is the difference between pipes and thank your lucky stars that your that your smoking companion is a luxurious VanRoy.” VanRoy Company, Inc., Empire State Building, New York, N.Y. (September 1945). They incorporated the Ajustomatic stem fitment (also found in the Dr Grabow) starting in 1945, but this feature became an exclusive for Dr Grabow starting in 1949. The stem logo is a fleur-de-lis, which is a stylized design of either an iris or a lily.
