About the Maker

"When I think about how I came to make pipes it makes sense to quote the American painter Robert Henri, who wrote "You can do anything you want to do. What is rare is the actual wanting to do a specific thing: wanting it so much that you are practically blind to all other things, that nothing else will satisfy you."

I had graduated with a degree in electrical engineering, worked in circuit design for a brief time, went back to school to study molecular biology, and later worked in a plant protein research lab. But as the saying goes, all I got was my labor for my pains, and I soon found myself much more satisfied taking odd jobs while I studied art. Soon afterward, I found I had a singular passion for making pipes.

I spent the following year teaching myself fundamental pipe-making techniques, acquiring or constructing the necessary tools and supplies, and studying the pipes of artisans from countries as diverse as America, Denmark, Japan, Russia, and Germany. Today my work is constantly evolving as I continue to explore many different designs, styles, methods, and techniques.

About the Pipes

All of my pipes are made from only the finest Mediterranean briar, hand cut stems from German ebonite or cumberland rod, and embellishments including bamboo, pre-ban elephant or mammoth ivory, horn, and a variety of exotic woods. All are shaped by hand and subsequently freehand drilled on a lathe or with various rotary tools, and any blasting is done using a custom sandblasting setup. I take the utmost care when crafting every pipe, and each is engineered with an uncompromising attention to detail. I do not grade any of my pipes, however, each is priced according to the final result, and I attempt to represent each pipe accurately in the photographs.

Far too many things today are produced without a will in their creation, and I am proud to offer what I hope is something of more lasting value. For me there is no greater reward than to have someone enjoy one of my pipes."
