Joseph Rimbaud, maker of ROSTIAK pipes

ROSTIAK pipes are made by Joseph Rimbaud, who moved to the Jura in 2002, in order to make an unusual activity his job; pipe maker. After his BAC STI Génis Mécanique and a BTS CRS, he embarked on the creation of pipes as an autodidact and improved thanks to the invaluable advice of Pierre Morel, his (one) master in the matter.

"But I am now doing my best to honor what he gave me, in the simple manner of a human, of a craftsman who loves the work done, and who sincerely wants to transmit what he mastery. ”

He gets his supplies in the heart of the Jurassic region and in particular in Crozets where his workshop is located. As a good curious and creative craftsman, he also makes a wide range of objects; plates, boards, bowls, boxes ...

History with pipes

As you probably already know, every self-respecting smoker is naturally curious and observant.

So it was during my studies in La Rochelle that I got the idea of smoking a pipe. It was primarily the practical side that appealed to me ...

Because, in winter, it's a real challenge to roll a cigarette on the seafront! The leaf flies away, we take another, then, it's the tobacco that mingles with the spray ... After a few packets of leaves and tobacco thus happily dispersed, we say to ourselves that an effort of adaptation is then necessary! !!

It is therefore the first qualities of the smoker which guided me towards the pipe. You have to put this in the context (in 1997/98) where the "buccaneers" were still in place ... by observing them, I saw them fill their pipes without incident (of course, the ignition must be mastered), the container and the contents held the road!

So this is how I got the idea of buying my first bouffarde (I couldn't say the brand because I gave it to a friend 20 years ago…) When I decided to enter the store with my few francs in my pockets (there were no euros at the time ...)

My meager booty showed me a small curve "burns mouth" after so many dreams in front of models which were then completely "off budget" ...

My friends laughed at my purchase, but my little bouffarde was very busy and rather practical, moreover the tobacco that went with it was not afraid of humidity, once lit, all were satisfied with the taste and its effectiveness.

I was at the time in BAC STI Mechanical Engineering and all the creative ideas were jostling ...

And, by dint of all my friends coveting my skinny bouffarde, I decided to make one for a friend, then another, in a self-taught way (with boxwood, it was a little gross, but once cheeky ...) It was a challenge to DIY a new one on the weekends to test the week with friends. And it's quite funny to see some of them that I forgot, which are still with friends nowadays!
