Ganneval venait probablement des environs de St Claude où il avait appris à fabriquer des pipes en bois. La famille de Bondier venait vraisemblablement de Paris et avait émigré à Genève en 1789. Il avait lui-même travaillé comme tourneur sur bois à fabriquer des tuyaux à St Claude et dans ses environs pour les pipes en terre et en porcelaine. Donninger était Autrichien ou Suisse et avait travaillé à Vienne, le centre mondial de la pipe d’écume. Ils se mirent d’accord sur l’acronyme "GBD" qui reprenait l’initiale de chacun de leur nom. Bondier survécut à ses partenaires pendant environ 30 ans. Ils furent remplacés par d’autres. Par conséquent la propriété de GBD mais également la raison sociale de la compagnie changèrent plusieurs fois : Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger Bondier, Ulrich & Cie. Bine, Marechal & Cie. et en définitive A.Marechal, Ruchon & Cie. En même temps le nom GBD s’était imposé et fut ainsi conservé. Auguste Maréchal et Ferdinand Ruchon menèrent l'entreprise vers le 20ème siècle. Ils dirigèrent la compagnie durant plus de cinquante ans . |
