The Butz-Choquin pipe, from Metz to Saint-Claude.
Jean-Baptiste Choquin had in Metz a trade of tobacconist. This trade was rather significant since it had some workmen who worked for him. Among those, we find a certain Gustave Butz which was its first workman and who became his son-in-law by marrying his daughter Marie in 1858.
It is in 1858 that Jean-Baptiste Choquin created, in collaboration with Gustave Butz, the Choquin pipe. It was a curved pipe, with a flat-bottomed hearth, whose pipe. It was prolonged by a part in bone of albatross. The assembly of this pipe was ensured by silver rings.
Gustave Butz founded in1858, always in Metz, an establishment for the manufacture of the Choquin pipe which took the name of BUTZ-CHOQUIN. In 1951, the Berrod-Regad company bought the Butz-Choquin mark of which it ensured the manufacture since many years. Left from Metz, the Butz-Choquin pipe was foun in Saint-Claude, world capital of the briar pipe, under the Berrod-Regad group. It could not fall in better hands. Indeed, the Berrod-Regad group gave again its "nobility's letters" of this mark. I will completely rebuild the network of the representatives for finally opening at the market of export in 1960 and received the Oscar of export, as well as the Gold Cup of the French good taste.
In a few years, The pipe's collection passed from ten to seventy series. It is thus thanks to the Berrod-Regad company that, 135 years after, the Butz-Choquin pipe is still known, and that, not only in France but also throughout the world. In 2002, the Berrod family, wishing to preserve the activity of manufacture of the pipes in Saint-Claude, with yielded the company to Fabien Guichon, native from the area, which will continue to develop yhe Butz-Choquin mark during the 21st century.
