The Alfred Dunhill of London Inc. (formed in New York in 1921) filed a petition to the U.S. government to reduce import fees on February 5, 1929,  to be able to reduce their prices and thereby be able to compete with the American market. They also expected to increase its profits margin, which was very small at the time.
