My activity as pipe maker started January 2008, shortly after my

retirement. I manufactured my first pipe as the result of a challenge

made by a pipe smoker friend. I enjoyed the activity so much that I

continued making pipes up to today. At the same time I created a blog

to show my works and to address some other aspects of pipe smoking.

Currently I make pipes only when some interesting and original idea

shows up in my mind.

I always liked straight pipes, preferably with a classic shape. But

what really excites me most is to make freehand pipes with original

shapes. The shapes of my pipes are usually related with cinema and

the literature.

Specially at the beginning of my activity as a pipe maker I tried to

not get too influenced by other artisans. Despite that my favorite

artisans are the ones from the North, and some Russians as well.

I started smoking pipes around 1967. At some point I switched to

smoke cigarettes for a long time. A few years ago I returned to the

world of pipe smoking.

My home is located in La Coruña (North of Spain) but I usually live in

the country, near Betanzos. My workshop, where I make all my pipes,

is located there.

My complete name is Félix Massó Milleiro and I was born in Marín,

Pontevedra (Galicia - Spain). In the same town there is a military

navy school, property of the Spanish Army.

The Massó family located in Galicia started living in that beautiful

Spanish region at the beginning of the nineteenth century. They are

originally from Blanes, near Barcelona. They introduced some

innovations like the "salazones" (a primitive form of tinned

technology), establishing factories in Bueu, Cangas and Rajó. All of

them towns located in Pontevedra.

I have an Engineering degree and I worked as such in the energetic

multinationals AEG (20 years) and ABB (12 years), working as a

commercial for Galicia.

Comencé a elaborar pipas en enero de 2.008, a los pocos meses de jubilarme y por un reto que le lanzó un amigo pipafumador, elaboré una primera pipa y la actividad me resultó tan gratificante, que seguí, hasta la fecha, con dicha actividad. Simultáneamente creé un blog para mostrar mis trabajos y, de paso, tratar en él sobre otros aspectos relacionados con el mundo de la pipa.
