From Pipes, Artisans and Trademarks, by José Manuel Lopes

Roman Peter is the brand and name of the Swiss artisan born in Zurich in 1963. A qualified furniture artisan, Roman is also a trained restorer of English and Oriental antiques. He started making pipes part-time in 1985, and restores all brands in the most varied materials (wood, clay, porcelain, meerschaum, horn and amber, among others), using the appropriate original techniques. In 1993 he opend his own shop, Peter Tabakwaren -- with a great variety of pipes and tobacco, where he also has his workshop.

He makes classics and freehands with briar from Greece and Italy, and ebonite stems. Roman makes about 50 freehands a year, which sometimes have highly original shapes. "In my workshop, small works of art are born, but also classic shapes, always with the best quality briar", he says. The brand is only sold in his shop.

Peter took part in various exhibitions betwen 1987 and 1992. Stamp: R.P.

Roman Peter operates a pipe and tobacco shop and is authorised repairer to more than 200 other pipe retailers. As a pipemaker he works exclusively with briar purchased from Italy and Greece. He has an affectation for what he calls "organic" forms. Beside the traditional shapes he offers more sculptural pipes with quite extravagant designs. Peter's freehands are tagged with a white ring made of antilope bones and bear the artisan's signatur on the bottom of the shank.
