Josep Santané i Ribas was born in Tossa de Mar, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, and is one of the few in the country still producing artisan pipes. The tradition of working in wood came from his grandfather, Dionís. As a child he would watch his grandfather making miniature boats for hours.

He uses regional briar and spend between 10 and 20 hours producing each pipe, which are often based on a customer's suggestion. He only makes unique pipes--few in number, signed and each with its own certificate.
