I noticed you wanted some information regarding Castleford and the following is what I pulled together 10-15 years back when I bought a Castleford. I can’t vouch for its detail of course. It’s certainly not up to date.

(Sorry I did not record the date of purchase more than a decade ago.), courtesy Robert Taylor]]It [Castleford] was crafted in Kent, Southeastern England by Colin Fromm, relatively young for a carver. He is proving to be one of the great English pipe carvers. Renowned for his remarkable sandblasting work and his incredible smooth straight grain hand-cuts. Fromm does all of the work himself on his freehand series, from selection of the finest Grecian and Corsican briar to hand cut bowls and stems to the staining and finishing. The freehand series consists mostly of large to oversized pipes of unbelievable beauty and lightness. Designed to satisfy both the tactile and visual senses, these remarkable pieces are as much a joy hold (being extremely light) as they are to observe. Furthermore, their smoking quality is exceptional, providing a dry, cool smoke. Castlefords are also the only major English brand that is air cured (rather than oil cured like Ashton, Dunhill and Ferndown). Colin Fromm established the Castleford brand of pipes for the American market while he was turning pipes for Invicta Briars. Small numbers of Castleford pipes are still produced by Colin, although he now works for Dunhill. The author of this was reasonably confident that the sand- blasting for his pipes was done by that other legend of the UK pipemaking community, Bill Taylor. Dunhill re-purchased Charatan when J.B. Russell went out of business in 2002 and called on Colin Fromm of Invicta Briars and Castleford fame to produce Charatan freehands. Colin Fromm and his foreman Colin Leeson, both belonging to the small number of English pipe artisans skilled in making high-end freehand shapes, had already been making exquisite freehands for Dunhill for a couple of years in Chatham, Kent. In 2005 the Castleford brand was owned by Music City Marketing (Nashville) who back then was also the authorized distributor in the USA for Alfred Dunhill Pipes and Smokers' Accessory Ranges. At that time Music City had their Castleford pipes made at the Dunhill facility in Chatham where they also made Charatan pipes.
