The Alco pipe was launched in 1964 by Falcon. George Hunt, who had taken over leadership of Falcon in 1949, realized that Comoy's was already marketing a line of Falcon pipes, and so when he began distribution in the United Kingdom the decision was made to buff th e F and N off of Falcon pipes as the aluminum was sufficiently thick to permit the change. Eventually Falcon pipes were marketed in the U.K. under that name, and the Alco name was applied to a different pipe, with smaller threading than a standard Falcon.
