:Nothing, really. Used or previously owned pipes have come to be known as Estate pipes. They can either be smoked or unsmoked and still qualify. They can be cheap or expensive, and still qualify, and they can come from an English Lord's estate, or picked up off of a dying bum on the street. It just sounds better.
