The owner of Kemperling, Mr. Dieter Kemperling, died in 2021. The operation is no longer in operation. He is remembered as being a great afficionado of pipes by an aquentince who lives in Salzberg, not far from the location of the Kemperling workshop.

Kemperling is the brand and name of an Austrian factory. The company was founded in 1834 in Vienna by the well known turner, Anton Kemperling. Since 1944 it has been in Mattsee. It is run by Dieter Kemperling, the fourth generation of the family in the business.
He produces briar pipes, Tyrolian pipes (briar and porcelain) and other wooden items, such as statuettes and religious figures. He makes 10 thousand pipes a year for the internal market and export (Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and the U.S.).[1][2]

Olly wrote with the following information and description regarding his recent acquisition:

"I recently acquired a very nice little meerschaum pipe in it's original case. To try & find out more about it I looked at pipedia & found various contact details for this company. Unfortunately none of them worked and when I tried looking up A.Kemperling Gmbh it comes up as 'company no longer registered' or words to that effect.

I would love for you to be able to prove me wrong, but sadly I think Kemperling's is no more.

If you are interested, I have attached a few photos as I can find no reference to kem's ever making meerschaums. Only the case is marked, so perhaps it's not the original?"

To my eye, the case does look original--the pipe certainly seems to fit well.
