Dante Lavoratore is from Rovito, in the Cosenza province. Now retired, Dante still makes around a hundred pipes a year with his children's help.

He uses Calabrain briar, which he chooses himself from the hills. He prefers large, solid pieces: "Only the large are true pipes", he told the Milano Pipa Club site.
