Pipe maker Richard Lawton started his career as a chef traveling the world, cooking on yachts for the rich and famous.
Among his unique traits, Richard continues to dress in the New England "preppy" tradition he grew up in. He was also an avid weight lifter until the damage to his joints made the practice of that passion impossible.
In the 1970s, his fiancée bought him a pipe and a robe because she though he looked like Hugh Hefner, and he’s never turned back. He made his first pipe 14-years ago, but just started selling them about 2-years ago under the brand Briar Arts Pipes. He often includes a matching tamper with his pipes, and they have lately been presented in a fitted wooden case.
