Frank Furedy was a tobacco blender from Chicago, Illinois who filed for a patent on a smoker's pipe in May of 1960. Sadly, Furedy passed away before his patent was granted and published some seven years later at the request of his heir.  His invention was marketed as the Pyro-Bol, and was notable for its glass inner combustion chamber, surrounded by a series of removable, vented wooden pieces.
