It is impossible that "HGP" are the initials of a pipe maker formerly employed by Dunhill, as "HGP" was in use the year that Dunhill began making its pipes (1920).

While purportedly the initials of a pipe maker under the employ of Barclay-Rex, the initials "HGP" also appear in advertising for the Barclay Pipe Shop as ''early as 1920''; the "HGP" initials evidently formed part of a trademark (see advertising below; The Pauw Wow, St. Peter's College NJ 1935-left, and The Nation 1921-right) that was featured on pipes and (perhaps later) tobacco.
