Thomas Kalmar
Thomas Kalmar is one of the newest generation of pipe makers from Germany who are attracting a lot of attention. He was born in Hungary in 1978. Since 2009 he has lived with his family in the picturesque Bavarian Forest . After graduating from university as a horticultural engineer, he worked in the public sector for seven years.
In 2010, he decided to make a fundamental change of direction and opened an online shop with his wife. There he offered restored tobacco pipes , which he took great pleasure in reviving. This also encouraged him to learn basic skills in pipe making.
He has been a passionate pipe smoker for more than 20 years . He has long had the dream of one day making his own pipes under his name. In March 2022, he finally made this dream come true and began making handmade tobacco pipes as a self-taught craftsman . This new, creative phase opened up a whole new world for him that enchanted him with its freedom.
He uses his social media channels as a resonance chamber , through which he receives valuable feedback.
Thomas Kalmar uses only high-quality Italian briar wood from Mimmo ( Mimmo Romeo, Romeo Pipe ) as well as Greek plateaux or ebauchon. For decorations he uses natural materials , including various domestic and exotic woods and various types of horn. The mouthpieces are made of fine ebonite or acrylic . The integration of 9mm filter holes is no problem for him.
Thomas has set up his workshop in a small wooden house at the foot of the Falkenstein. Making a tobacco pipe is a time-consuming, creative process that requires a lot of patience and dedication. The end result is a unique work of craftsmanship.
